Johannesburg

25th - 27th November 2021

Shortly before the onset of winter in Germany, Reeperbahn Festival International will once again be heading to warmer locales. South Africa is calling! Reeperbahn Festival Johannesburg will take place from 25–27 November 2021 as part of ACCES, which is organized by the MIAF (Music In Africa Foundation) and is the leading African-music trade event.

Reeperbahn Festival presents the highly regarded African artists Sampa the Great (Zambia) and Yugen Blakrok (South Africa).

Furthermore, Reeperbahn Festival Johannesburg will host two panels with African and European speakers as part of ACCES (a.o. Colin Schrinner, Head of Tunecore Germany; Mpumi Philips, Director of Distribution – The Orchard; Yuvir Pillay, Music Operations Manager Africa – TikTok; Laurent Bizot – Founder No Format!): The first panel will be dedicated to the topic of inclusion and how emerging artists can successfully find a global audience. The second panel will cover the topic of talent development, including incubation and investment models for cultural professionals. Furthermore, two workshops in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut South Africa will take place on site, and during the day, with award-winning DJ & producer 37mph (South Africa) and singer-songwriter and producer Muzi (South Africa). ACCES visitors will find a Reeperbahn Festival International exhibition booth that is designed as a hub for networking and information exchange.

Due to COVID-19 risks, this Reeperbahn Festival International event will also have to do without taking a delegation of European music-industry professionals to South Africa. However, as already successfully accomplished at Reeperbahn Festival Pan-Africa in June, the matchmaking event will take place also via the Reeperbahn Festival conference platform. On Friday, 26 November, renowned African decision-makers from various management agencies, labels, publishers, and bookers will connect with their European counterparts via digital 1:1 meetings.

In addition, there will be showcases in the evening: Reeperbahn Festival International presents the African artists Sampa the Great (Zambia) and Yugen Blakrok (South Africa) - the performances can be followed on the respective event day on the partner site of the MIAF (Music In Africa Foundation) in the livestream. Yugen Blakrok will be releasing new singles within the next months and a new album towards end of 2022 on her French label IOT Records and is currently looking for booking agents in countries and territories beyond France, Germany and Spain (Contact: Ignacio Priego).

Sampa the Great is on UK label Ninja Tune and the Echo Location Talent Agency is currently booking her 2022 EU tour, with first gigs confirmed e.g. at Primavera Sound Festival and Summerjam Festival (Contact: Carl Pires).
