I'm Ava Vegas, and I live in Berlin. I was born in Göttingen, but spent most of my youth on Ibiza. I was born just after the early death of the singer Nico (aka Christa Päffgen) in 1988, who also lived on Ibiza, but her spirit is part of my music. My stagename, Vegas, comes from a Nico song and also describes the unreal state oftransition of the American desert city that is conjured up by my urban music. Influenced by the techno clubs of Ibiza, I finally ended up in the German capital, where I was encouraged by the singer Dagobert to record my music. Mysinging-, piano-, ballet-, and acting lessons helped to prepare me for music in many ways, but I still searched for a long time for a way to accurately express my visions. Through my work with Johannes Weber (Jungstötter, P.A. Hülsenbeck), Tim Roth (1k Flowers, Sin Maldita), Max Gruber (Drangsal), Tom Hessler (Fotos), and Arnar Guðjónsson (Warmland, Kaleo, Dream Wife), I was able to discover my current sound – art pop that lies somewhere between Lana del Rey, the John Cale of the 1980s, the balladic Leslie Feist,and the coquettish smile of Knef.
