Program details to follow
In its 15-year history, Reeperbahn Festival has never shied away from challenges: Because of the present health situation, the fifth Reeperbahn Festival New York Edition in the course of the A2IM (American Association of Independent Music) Indie Week from 15 - 18 June 2020 took place exclusively online for the first time, supported by the Federal Foreign Office.
This year's delegation consisted of 29 music business representatives from eleven nations (DEU, AUT, CHE, GBR, NLD, HUN, POL, NOR, DNK, PRT, ROU), including the fields of publishing, management, distribution, label management, marketing and licensing.
Although exclusively digital, the programme of the Reeperbahn Festival New York Edition was as rich in content as usual: Apart from the opportunity to participate in all official programme items of the A2IM Indie Week, including numerous panels, keynotes, chapter hangs and virtual lobby, knowledge sharing among all participants as well as matchmaking sessions and digital visits at New York companies were part of the day-to-day agenda.
2019 Reeperbahn Festival was again present at the Indie Week of the American Association Of Independent Music (A2IM). The aim was to tear down borders between the German, European and US music markets and to promote the exchange of culture and music. And of course to showcase 7 bands and artists on one evening in the Lower East Side in one of the hottest music cities in the world!
The Reeperbahn Festival delegation traveled with representatives of 45 companies from all over Europe - more than in 2018. In the panel #HowWeListen, European and American representatives of the music industry discussed music consumption and distribution in the age of Youtube and Spotify on Tuesday.
Wednesday evening began with the announcement of the members of the jury for the Anchor Award 2019 led by jury president and producer legend Tony Visconti. Other members include producer Bob Rock, songwriter Kate Nash, singer and producer Peaches, Australian radio and television presenter Zan Rowe and Beatsteaks singer Arnim Teutoburg-Weiß.
The highlight of the evening was an international line-up of concerts by artists from both sides of the Atlantic, which wound its way musically from R'n'B to indie rock and garage punk: Surfbort (US), Renata Zeiguer (US), Gurr (DE), Mira Lu Kovacs (AT), Leoniden (DE), Ori (IL), Yes We Mystic (CA).
