I’m Bohan Phoenix, and I was born in China. I emigrated to the USA at the age of 11 without speaking a word of English. I fell in love with hip-hop and quickly learned English by rapping about pretty much anything that I came across. Today, as an artist myself, my musical focus extends beyond hip-hop and alsoincludes indie rock and soul. Culturally, I also travel between worlds and combine the Chinese and English languages and cultures – my fans call me "Mr. Overseas" because I constantly fluctuate between East and West. I'mthe classic example of "too foreign for here, too foreign for home," and I want to be a voice for everyone who feels the same way. In general, building cultural bridges is close to my heart – not only for the Asian community, but also, for example, for the interests of the Black Lives Matter movement. I've collaborated with artists from around the globe, including Chinese rap superstars the Higher Brothers, Canadian producer Ryan Hemsworth, Korean-American MC Dumbfoundead, and radio host Benji B from the UK. I'vereleased music on labels including Kitsuné and EMPIRE, and since September, I've been a global brand ambassador for Vans alongside J.I.D.
